The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild offers players an expansive world full of mysteries, including the fascinating Leviathan Bones side quest. Commencing at Serenne Stable, this quest tasks adventurers with discovering and photographing the remains of three massive ancient creatures scattered across Hyrule. Completing this objective requires navigating distinct environments, solving clever environmental puzzles, and utilizing the Sheikah Slate camera rune.

Starting the Leviathan Bones Side Quest

To begin this prehistoric paleontological mission, head over to Serenne Stable located in the Woodland region. Inside or near the stable, you will encounter three researcher brothers named Akrah, Garshon, and Onya debating how these creatures went extinct. Speaking with Akrah initiates the quest, asking Link to capture clear photographs focusing specifically on the head of each leviathan skeleton.

Locating the Eldin Great Skeleton

The first set of remains resides in the far northern reaches of the Eldin region, situated northeast of Death Mountain. Traversing the East Deplian Badlands reveals the massive fossil stretched out across the barren terrain. Once you reach the site, equip the Sheikah Slate Camera rune to snap a photograph showing the skull clearly to satisfy the researchers.

Finding the Gerudo Great Skeleton

Finding the second skeleton requires venturing into the harsh environment of the southwestern Gerudo Desert. Travelers must navigate through blinding sandstorms past Dragon's Exile to reach the far corner of the map. Once present, take a clear picture of the leviathan's head while taking advantage of the nearby Great Fairy Fountain and Hawa Koth Shrine.

Unlocking the Hidden Hebra Great Skeleton

The final set of bones is hidden inside an ice cavern located near the Hebra North Summit in northwestern Hyrule. Reaching this underground cavern requires a creative puzzle solution involving Cryonis ice pillars and rolling heavy snowballs to break down a giant wooden door. Inside the cave, photograph the giant skull above the To Quomo Shrine to finish your collection.

Claiming Your Quest Rewards

With all three photographs successfully taken, fast travel back to Serenne Stable to present your findings. Show each photo to the corresponding brother to advance their paleontological theories. After all three researchers review your visual evidence, Akrah will reward Link with a Gold Rupee worth 300 rupees for completing the quest.
